Question

Hi everyone, I'm new here This looks like a great site for American Girl fans and I just love looking at all your picture of your dolls! It's almost like they're right in front of me for real lol.

Anyways, I'm really sorry if this has been posted before, but I was wondering what I could do about my Kirsten's hair. She's about 7 years old and the ends of her hair are really really dry and coarse. Is there anything I can do about this? Is it safe to wet her har? What should I wash it with? Are there any past threads about doll hair, that I could look at?

Thank you very much in advance for answering my questions I'm looking forward to being a part of the board!

Oh, and I was also wondering, what's a DD?

    Welcome BananaSmoothie!

There are probably hours worth of posts on doll hair. There is a search function at the top of the page. Also, check out this album, which shows how to give Kirsten a Downy Dunk. This works pretty well, and these instructions are excellent.

To maintain hair, I also recommend Biolage Daily Leave-in Treatment. You can find it at the salon in many Walmart stores. It's a light spray that you can use to mist the hair when you brush it (with a wire wig brush only!). It works much better than a water mist IMO.

    DD means Dear Daughter.

    Have fun with the board!

I recommend Brandywine Wig conditioner. It took care of my Samantha's dryness. I bought mine off of ebay, but I think you could get it in a beauty supply shop. It's made for synthetic hair/wigs, so it's great for AG doll wigs.

    Welcome to the board!!!

Ok, Is your Kirsten doll a PM doll? (pre-mattel) If she is, I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM!! it was awfule! I couldent even put it in a loose pony tail without several strands actually breaking off from dryness! I took downey fabric softener and washed and rinsed her hair, let it air dry, and then put some downey in a plastic bag and put most of the dolls hair into it and let it sit for about 24 hrs. Then rinsed out the downey with luke warm water and let it air dry again. (I also VERY carfully combed it ti keep the knots from drying into place.) and Voila!!! her hair was SO SOFT!! and it was actually really shiney!!

It worked really well for me. I hope it helps alot, because I know how bad dry hair can be on a doll!

Oh, please excuse the long post, im feeling very...chatty.

Thanks for the informative replies and warm welcomes everyone

Anna, I do belive she is Pre-Mattel. She has no tag and her eyelashes are soft. Are there any other ways to tell?

I just got Marisol today from the mail and she is adorable, I love her! She is A LOT taller than Kirsten and a bit thinner too.

Well, thank you again for the advice, I will be giving Kirsten a Downy Dunk tomorrow maybe. I hope it goes ok!

    Oh, I just remembered something:

What kind of Downey should I get, is there a certain type?

I used Downy Free, the one with no dyes or scents. I don't know that it matters though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It doesn't matter. All brands of fabric softener, not just Downy work as well. I use Snuggle or Suavitel myself.
